Jane's Walk

Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs.

Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.

Walks take place in hundreds of cities around the world.

map

Brief Description of the Walk: This year the walk will travel westward along Old Wellington Street to hear the story of the Armstrong family, the Wellington Hotel and distillery, the WWII Grotto, realignment of Highway 7, and on to the Rouge River and Milne Dam.  We will explore the fish ladder, see the construction of the new bridge and explore parts of Milne Park.  The walk will return with stories of the building of the new subdivision, Roy Crosby PS and St. Patrick’s RC Church.  We will journey about 3.5 km so wear comfortable walking shoes and dress according to the weather.  Come and enjoy the camaraderie of the walking group and learn more about the community of Markham Village.
