(Mar.01.07)     After the highs of their dramatic overtime victory on Tuesday night in Markham, the Waxers came out flat Wednesday night, falling by a 3-0 shutout to the Buzzers.  They will have another chance on Friday night, once again at St. Michael’s Arena, to close out the series.

The Waxers were up against a St. Michael’s team that had their backs to the wall and played with desperation and intensity.  As coach Rick Cornacchia said, his team got outplayed tonight in every aspect.

“There was no second life for them (St. Mike’s).  They threw everything they could at us because if they didn’t it would be over.”

St. Mike’s scored a goal in every period.

Brian Potacco put his team ahead 1-0 at 18:19 of the first period on a wrap around, an assist going to Brendan Smith.

Mike Forgione dealt the Waxers their bitterest pill to swallow. At 6:31 of the second period, his team short-handed, Forgione went in on a breakaway and tucked the puck past Markham goalie Matthew Spezza.  Assists went to Tyler Sgro and Matthew Clune.

In the third period, with the Waxers’ Daniel Torres in the penalty box for roughing, Fred Cassiani scored a power play goal from Louie Caporusso and Mike Forgione.

       The Buzzers outshot Markham 44-30.

Game 5 is on Friday at St. Mikes.

Game 6, if necessary, will be on Saturday evening at Markham Centennial Arena. Needless to say, the Waxers will do everything to avoid letting the series go that far.
