The Kathleen Gormley McKay Art Centre, also
known as the Salem Eckardt House, was built between 1845 and 1851 by
Andrew and Salem Eckardt, sons of Philip Eckardt, one of the original
"Berczy Settlers" who founded Unionville in 1794.
It was also once the home of F. H. Varley,
the famous artist of the Group of Seven. He lived and painted in this
Gothic Revival cottage home for the last 12 years of his life. It now
serves as an art centre for studio classes.
The McKay Art Centre also features exhibits
and works for sale from talented community artists and is the perfect spot
to visit on your next trip to Unionville.
