Speak Up And Be A Future Leader

(joint program between Markham Public Library and CICS Immigrant Youth Centre (IYC))

Tuesdays, August 2 - 23, 2016

10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Location: Thornhill Community Centre Library
7755 Bayview Ave.  map

Designed for immigrant youth to develop a healthy sense of self and to acquire the life skills needed in a new environment, forming a solid foundation for future leadership roles in Canadian society.

In addition, through this program, the participants will be involved in community events, providing them with volunteer opportunities.

Target Audience: Youth between the ages of 13 – 17 years

Program Highlights/Objectives:

· Participants will have an opportunity to practice and improve their English, as well as make new friends

· Participants will acquire drama role - play and public speaking skills, helping them to build self-confidence, explore and harness their talents, and become future leaders

· Participants will acquire event - planning and marketing skills, and put on an event in the community

· Participants will learn ways to obtain support from the public library, and discover library services and resources
