Please read his story to understand what a difference you can make….
At the age of 4 years old I was taken into the
care of the Children’s Aid Society. I faced numerous challenges
leading up to my life today. I resided at multiple foster homes, some
with which I was abused and neglected. I never had a place to call
home. At the age of 19 I was residing in a foster home in the United
States, it was a situation I was very unhappy living in, I wanted to
return to Canada, but did not have any supports to make a successful
transition. It was at that time that I found out about Pathways. I was
accepted into the Pathways Residential Program, where I resided for 8
months. I was provided with a roof over my head, food on the table,
structure and support from staff to teach me the skills necessary to
survive in “the real world”. When I left the residential program I
felt I was ready to achieve success; however I unfortunately found
myself homeless, living on the streets of Toronto and addicted to
drugs. I found within myself the ability to seek treatment and it was
at this time that I was able to contact Pathways once again for
support. I received an Aftercare Transitional Support Worker who
supported and empathised with me. It was through this relationship and
my will to succeed that I successfully completed 13 ½ months of
treatment. Today I am drug free, working full time, live in my own
apartment and am hoping to enrol in college to become a Child and
Youth Worker for September 2010. I feel it is my time to give back,
and I will do that by helping those who are living my past. I do not
know where I would be without the support of Pathways!
Thai is one of many youth that Pathways has helped to
build a path to success. With your help, we will continue to inspire
and empower others to turn their lives around.
