Mayor's Vimy Concert

Tuesday, April 4, 2017

7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Location: FLATO Markham Theatre
171 Town Centre Boulevard map

The 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Association is dedicated to honouring the achievements of our citizen soldiers in World War 1. Specifically, our Concert commemorates the Battle of Vimy Ridge, seminal battle of World War 1 which solidified Canada’s reputation, and led to our becoming a more independent country, one which signed the Treaty of Versailles on its own.

With the patronage of His Honour Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of the City of Markham, The 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Association presents a Band Concert on Tuesday April 4, 2017 at 7 PM, honouring The 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, which was fought over 4 days starting April 9, 1917. The concert features selections of music familiar to the 1914-1918 period. The Concert will also feature “Letters from the Front”, reflecting, in words, life during World War 1, both at home and in the trenches.

In addition, The 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Association Military Band is honoured and pleased to be joined by members of the York Regional Police Pipes and Drums.

Mayor's Vimy Dinner & Concert

The concert will be preceded by an elegant sit-down "Trench" dinner with French and Belgium cuisine that was eaten during those times.

The music will be of those times as well, interspersed throughout the music will be actors dressed in appropriate wear for those times who will read letters to and from the Trenches and Canada giving the audience another Living History moment of life in the War and back home.

The dinner is at the Theatre at 5:30 p.m.
