This 33rd Anniversary Festival will feature multicultural foods and entertainment from around the world and will highlight the different cultures in the Taste of Markham Food showcase. There will be cultural and craft booths, five stages of entertainment, live performers, and Markham Village Carnival Rides and Games on Main Street Markham North. (map)

Markham Village Music Festival “Swings with the King” in 2011

The Markham Village Music Festival, being held June 17th and 18th, announces the addition of a new component sure to be a crowd pleaser.

In co-operation with the internationally recognized Collingwood Elvis® Festival, we welcome the “Swing with the King in Markham” event featuring an Elvis related competition to be held on Saturday, June 18th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and featuring three Youth competitors, under 14 years of age, and three Adult competitors.

The friendly competition will be hosted by Collingwood Grand Champion Gino Monopoli.

The competition will be overseen by a panel of three independent judges including the legendary Robbie Lane of Robbie Lane and the Disciples fame. The judges will be looking for a variety of criteria with the main focus being vocal ability. One winner from each division will receive a cash prize and inclusion as a competitor in the 17th annual Collingwood Elvis Festival held July 21st to 24th in Collingwood, Ontario.

Ardy Reid, one of the Festival organizers for the Markham Village Music Festival stated “We are very excited to be partnering with the Collingwood Elvis Festival to bring quality Elvis musicians for Markham to enjoy. We’re gonna have some fun!

Rosemarie O’Brien, Festival General Manager for the Collingwood Elvis Festival, will be attending the Markham event to award the winners their prize certificates and explained, “We (Collingwood Elvis Festival) are very pleased to be working with the Markham Village Music Festival in this co-operative venture. Elvis fans are extremely loyal and supportive and we expect a new audience base to join in the fun and community spirit of this already successful family event.”

The “King” will sing and swing in Markham on the Robinson Street stage so put on your blue suede shoes, come out and get all shook up at this rockin’ event.
