McKay
Art Centre
The Town of Markham is proud to
claim as their own the historic Kathleen McKay/Salem Eckhardt house,
recently
restored to its original splendour. The house
dates to the 1840's and was the home of Frederick Horsman Varley
during the last 12 years of his life. In his studio on the lower
level of the house, Varley created various portraits and landscapes
inspired by the surrounding area.
Now used for
community art exhibitions, local artists rent the main level of
this beautiful Victorian-era home to showcase their work.
Ideally located on picturesque Main Street Unionville, the McKay Art Centre attracts art lovers, tourists, history
buffs and locals alike.
