A variety of courses are available at the Markham Guild of Village Crafts to satisfy your interest. Enroll in some classes and see what you can do!

Classes are open to members and non-members.

REGISTRATION: Please register with the individual instructor for the respective course. Students must register 2 week prior to class start date. Most classes require additional materials fees which are not included in the prices stated unless otherwise stated. Validate times and additional fees with each instructor when registering. Cheques should be made payable to: Markham Guild of Village Crafts.

REFUND POLICY: Full Refund: If the program you choose is cancelled by the Guild.
                         Partial Refund: $5.00 administration and material fees are not refundable if cancelled by the student.
                         No Refund: If student cancels later than one (1) week prior to the beginning of the course.

Learn soap making from scratch. Students will learn how to make a glorious batch of handmade soap with herb infused oils, combining lavender and topping with calendula petals. Recipes will be provided. Students will be informed by teacher as to some required items they must bring from home.

CANDLE MAKING

Learn the tricks of making a beautiful solid beeswax candle in one pour, avoiding cracks and streaks. The workshop will show you how to create a professional line of candle that would be perfect for gift giving.

JEWELRY MAKING
- WIRE WRAPPING

Students will learn how to wire wrap glass beads, make coiled wire bead cages and eye pins, and work with jump rings to assemble all pieces to create a beautiful bracelet and earrings complete with toggle and charm. Students will then be able to apply what they have learned to create beautiful necklaces.
Students will need to bring some tools such as pliers and cutters.

VIKING KNIT (Wirework)

You do not need to know how to knit to create beautiful jewelry using the Viking Knit method of wirework. Students will work with 24 gauge wire to create a bracelet with end caps and clasp. What is learned in the workshop can then be used to create a necklace.
(Students will need to bring some tools as pliers and cutters.

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Fee:  $21.00.  Material fee of $30.00 is extra. (Students can deduct $20.00 (wholesale price) from material fee is they already have the “Lazee Dazee” Viking Knit tool and a draw plate (Retail cost: $40.00).

SWEDISH WEAVE ON MONK’S CLOTH

All you need is a sewing needle, yarn and Monk’s cloth to create beautiful afghans/throws. In this workshop, students will make a sampler place mat. Skills learned can then be applied to create afghans or throws in the colour of their choice.
Students must bring a #13 metal yarn needle and a ball of 4-ply worsted weight acrylic yarn, any color.

Date:  Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
           or Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Fee:  $21.00  Material fee: $7.00 (consists of “prepared Monk’s cloth”).
