A variety of courses are available at the Markham Guild of Village Crafts to satisfy your interest. Enroll in some classes and see what you can do!

Classes are open to members and non-members.

REGISTRATION: Please register with the individual instructor for the respective course. Students must register 1 week prior to class start date. Most classes require additional materials fees which are not included in the prices unless otherwise stated. Validate times and additional fees with each instructor when registering. Cheques should be made payable to: Markham Guild of Village Crafts.

REFUND POLICY: Full Refund: If the program you choose is cancelled by the Guild.
                                  Partial Refund: $5.00 administration and material fees are not refundable if cancelled by the student.
                                  No Refund: If student cancels later than one (1) week prior to the beginning of the course.

An on-going class to acquire technical skills in Handbuilding and Wheelthrowing techniques. Practice both techniques with stoneware clay and porcelain, experiment with glaze making, kiln loading and firing. A wheel is available for each student.

SEWING  

Adult / Teen Classes
Sewing for Beginners




This course requires minimal or no sewing experience. You will learn the parts and accessories of the machine, sewing skills, including adjusting tension and uses for the variety of standard stitches, and sewing terms. You will learn to read a pattern, and sew a pair of pajama pants.

This class is a continuation of the beginner sewer. We will cover new skills with your choice of projects. Buttonholes, collars, cuffs, pleats, tucks, etc. Must have previous sewing experience.

Stained Glass for Beginners



Beginners classes to acquire skills to work with stained glass, including glass cutting, refining glass shapes with a
grinder, copper foil construction, lead cane construction, soldering and finishing pieces. Project include: Snowflake
sun catcher, Christmas sun catcher, glass box and glass
panel.

RUG HOOKING  

Rug Hooking
(Beginner / Experienced)

This class is open to beginners and experienced rug hookers. Experienced rug hookers can bring any pattern, their own or commercial design. New rug hooking students can begin with a kit (to get started) and after that create
their own pattern or use another kit. This is a class for all beginners or experienced rug hookers to enjoy. Rug hookers are always welcome to getting help on finishing a project they've already started. There are many ways in doing rug hooking that are cost effective and creative. Plenty of helpful advice, dyeing tips and finishing techniques will be offered. This is a great class to take as everyone will be learning from all styles of rug hooking.
