International Museum Day

Sunday, May 20, 2018

12 noon to 4 p.m.

Location: Markham Museum, 9350 Markham Road (map)

With complimentary admission for one day only, enjoy our latest exhibitions and special activities for the whole family to celebrate International Museum Day.

Take this opportunity to visit the Museum, participate in our family drop-in activities and enjoy our current exhibitions. Learn to Camp with Parks Canada staff, and participate in a variety of nature themed activities.

Geared for Growing Exhibition

Visit the Geared for Growing exhibition, an exciting hands-on family friendly exploration of Markham’s rich agricultural history through the machines used in farming.  Learn about the many simple machines that make up some of the amazing complex machines that help us in our daily lives and on the farm.  From tractors to threshing machines, there are so many machines to discover.

Symmetry in Nature

Explore nature through a different lens! Symmetry and patterns are all around us. Families will explore the patterns in nature, using mirrors to learn about symmetry and find symmetrical patterns in the world around us.

Sun Paper Craft

Using natural materials, families can create a sun-masterpiece. Staff will provide various materials, from leaves to sticks, and encourage families to create their own pattern on the SunArt paper. After exposing it to the sun, they will have a beautiful creation to take home!

Planting the Flower Beds

Roll up your sleeves and get messy! Families will have to get out their green thumbs to help us plant some of our flowerbeds. Using native flowers, families will help us fill our planters for the spring and summer months.

Learn to Camp (not staffed by Museum)

Learn the basics of camping with an experienced Parks Canada staff member! From pitching a tent, to building a camp fire, you’ll be a camping pro in no time.

**No Guided Tours will be offered during International Museum Day.
