Chinese Ink PaintingThe Varley @ MPL
Chinese Ink Painting: Traditions, Philosophy and Practice

Thursday, May 26th, 2016

7 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Location: Angus Glen Library

3990 Major Mackenzie Dr. E.  map

Led by experienced artist and educator Jessica Deng, all are invited to participate in this fascinating hands-on workshop in celebration of Asian Heritage Month and the Varley Art Gallery's upcoming exhibition Visualizing a Culture for Strangers: Chinese Export Paintings from the Nineteenth Century.

Traditional ink painting expresses the spirit and philosophy of the artist, using minimal brushstrokes to portray poetic depictions, primarily of people, nature and the land. Explore this ancient art form and how it has evolved to present day through discussion and artists demonstrations, then be inspired to use these techniques to create your own Chinese ink painting.

All materials provided.

This event is in celebration of Asian Heritage Month @ MPL.
