Basketeers Supporting Women Leaving Shelters

Each year, violence and
abuse drives more than 100,000 Canadian women and
children out of their homes and into shelters.
Basketeers is a generous group of around 3,500
volunteers with large hearts. Our mission is to provide
some of the simple necessities and niceties of life,
bundled in a basket and gifted to women as they embark
on the next chapter of their lives.
more than 10,000 women have received a “New Beginnings”
basket since 2000, and we continue to grow. Many
individuals, families, friends, clubs, neighbourhoods
and businesses create baskets for distribution to women
ready to leave the five York Region shelters that we
represent. It is the overwhelming generosity of people
living and working in our region that has given us the
ability to reach out to help more women as a new shelter
has joined us this year.
Drop-off Day is Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 9:00
a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Unionville Presbyterian Church, 600
Village Parkway, Unionville L3R 6C2.

basket(s), stay for a while, enjoy some refreshments,
visit with other Basketeers and meet representatives
from our Region's shelters. For those who would like to
give a basket, we ask that they register on the website:
www.basketeers.org through the Give a Basket page. Every
donated basket is a gift of encouragement and support
for a woman as she transitions back into the community.
