Alzheimer Society's Fourth Annual Walk for Memories

     The Alzheimer Society of York Region is holding the first in this year’s series of Walks for Memories on Saturday, January 13 at Pacific Mall. Proceeds will go toward the opening of satellite offices of the Society in Vaughan and Stouffville and towards programs in York Region to help people with Alzheimer’s and to offer resources to assist caregivers.

     The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will involve a one hour walk inside Pacific Mall. So, no need to worry about cold or rain! If you would like to participate, you can pre-register through www.walkformemories.ca, download a pledge form and start gathering your pledges, or a pledge form can be mailed to you by calling 1 888 414 5550. Or, you can collect pledges and simply bring them with you and register right at the start of the walk at 10:00 a.m. at Centre Court in the Pacific Mall, 4300 Steeles Avenue East, at Kennedy Road.

      Walkers who have collected at least $100.00 in donations will receive a t-shirt as a souvenir of their participation. High school students who raise $100.00 will earn ten hours in their community service requirements.

      The Pacific Mall event will also feature entertainment, including singing and Chinese dancing, organized by the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham.

      Later in January the Alzheimer Society will be holding five other Walks for Memories throughout York Region. On January 20, it will be the turn of Georgina, the walk taking place at the Georgina Ice Palace Hall, starting at 10:00 a. m.

      On January 28, Walks for Memories will be held in four different locations: Markville Mall in Markham, the Al Palladini Community Centre in Vaughan, Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket and Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill. The starting time is 10:00 at all locations.
